Since preparing at the Werner Schlager Academy for the Individual World Championships in Rotterdam in May, 2011, the Chinese National Team has done well.
Impressively, they captured all the titles and dominated at the Worlds.
Following the training camp at the Academy, the guests were of much praise for the facilities, calling it the “Hollywood of Table Tennis” with the perfect place and the exceptional service. China's leadership team promised to come back.
And now the promise is being fulfilled more quickly than expected.
The Chinese team will return to the WSA in preparation for the World Team Championships in Dortmund (25th March - 1st April). Again, all the superstars, such as world champion Zhang Jike, Olympic champion Ma Lin, World number one Ma Long, world champion Ding Ning and many more will be here.
The (relatively short) time frame in making the decision to train again in Schwechat poses a hugh logistical challenge for the Academy. Even before China made its decision, teams of Austrian men and women, and players from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia (with superstar Zoran Primorac), Russia, and Iran have announced similar intentions.
In addition, players in the permanent training group, such as WSA-SVS-Ströck star Daniela Dodean (Romania), Joao Monteiro (Portugal), Mihai Bobocica (Italy) and Mattis Burgiss (Latvia) will be in attendance.
With
all these players together, for about a week the WSA training hall (with its 30
tables) will not be sufficient and therefore we will also train in the event
hall adjacent to the WSA with another 12 tables.
2012 is a highly active event year in the Werner Schlager Academy, with the
highlight of the year being the Youth European Championship (13 - 22 July). And
2013 (4th - 13th October) the European Championships will be hosted at the WSA,
resulting in the the largest ever table tennis event in Austrian history.
