The ITTF Latin American Championships which were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico last week were a huge success for the female players of Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
Gremlis Arvelo and Neridee Nino won the gold medal for Venezuela in the Women’s doubles event and also secured the bronze medal in the Team Event. They were beaten 3:2 by Puerto Rico in the Semifinal in a very close game. Puerto Rico subsequently won the silver medal, as they lost the final to Brazil. Two of the Puerto Rican Team members, the sisters Melanie and Adriana Diaz were also successful in the U21 Singles event. The two managed to reach the final where the younger one, Adriana succeeded.
For the WSA this is not only pleasant because the successful players of Venezuela and Puerto Rico prepared at our Academy for this important event, but all the more because the team of Venezuela has a long-term cooperation with the WSA and visits us consistently. Over the last 3 months up to 18 young Venezuelans practiced in Schwechat. Led by their mentor, the incomparable Pancho, the team became a part of the WSA-family over the years and we are always very happy to welcome them due to their friendly natures and their commitment for table tennis.
Congratulations to Venezuela and Puerto Rico-brilliant performance!!
