The European Table Tennis Championships in Herning, Denmark are history. From the perspective of the Werner Schlager Academy a unique success story.
The basic facts:
The Austrian Daniel Habesohn / Robert
Gardos secured gold in the men's doubles and
couldn’t be stopped on their way to the title even by the stars
Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Vladimir Samsonov (4-2 in
the semifinals). In the final
against Karlsson / Karlsson
(Sweden), the two also showed
nerves of steel (12:10 in set 7).
SVS STRÖCK star
Daniela Dodean gained with her Romanian colleague Elisabetha Samara gold
in women's doubles. The two were back in the final
against Toth / Pota
(Hungary) 0-3 but finally could turn the match into 4:3.
The young Dutch Britt
Eerland, who also lives in Schwechat the last few
months and has pitched her tents in the WSA,
reached sensational bronze in women's doubles at the side of the Hungarian Dora
Madarasz.
Also in individuals, there were
some outstanding performances of the WSA
athletes:
Daniela Dodean defeated for the first time in her career the
German European silver medalist Irene
Ivancan (4:1) and reached the quarterfinals.
Joao Monteiro beat out, among
others, Christian Suss (Germany) and Jens Lundqvist (Sweden).
He also made it to the quarterfinals.
Stefan Fegerl (SVS Niederösterreich) caused in Round 1 with the triumph over the Danish Gold candidate Michael
Maze the biggest sensation in the whole
tournament.
All in all, the WSA
players made great advertisement for the World Training Center in
the heart of Europe.
