After a thrilling match and tears of happiness it was certainty. WSA player Andreas Levenko has just qualified for the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing (China) from 16th - 28th of August 2014. The 15 year-old Austrian fought hard for the biggest win in his young career.
Mississauga in the west of Toronto (Canada) was the setting of those dramatic moments. ‘Andre’, with a bye in his first round, was able to beat Denmarks Claus Nielsen 4:2 in the semi-final. The following match delivered material for popcorn movies: The young Austrian was already down 2:3 and 0:5 in game six against the strong Swede Carl Ahlander-J before he started the deciding comeback. But just in this moment, when everything seemed lost, Andres' Austrian fellow David Vorčnik took a ‘time out’ to provide his buddy with essential tips. Andreas won the game 11:9 and destroyed his opponent in the last leg 11:2.
But it was not only a big win for Andreas Levenko and the Austrian table tennis, but rather more for his father and WSA coach Dmitrij Levenko: “What a relief. I'm really glad and happy that he has managed to win this tournament and qualify for the YOG!” summarised a very happy father.
‘Andre’ joins now his fellow WSA-talents Tamolwan ‘Mo’ Khetkhuan (Thailand), Gremlins ‘Andreina’ Árvelo (Venezuela) and Kirill Gerassimenko (Kazakhstan) who have already booked their Youth Olympic ticket.
The Werner Schlager Academy congratulates all athletes who have qualified for the Youth Olympic Games. Well done guys!
