The eagerly awaited main round of the table tennis World Championships in Suzhou started on April, 28 consistently positive for the WSA-players, as everyone mastered to trigger his or her best performance, thanks to the optimal preparation in the run-up to the event. Therefore most of the players managed to win their first-round games.
In the Men’s singles Mihai Bobocica started with a 4:2 victory against Tomislav Kolarek, followed by Robert Gardos with a 4:1 against Afshin Noroozi, Joao Monteiro with a 4:2 against Marco Rech Daldosso, Daniel Habesohn with a 4:1 against Mohamed El-Beiali, Lubomir Jancarik with a straight 4:0 against Bojan Tokic, the current number 58 in the World Ranking, Stefan Fegerl with a 4:0 against the former WSA-player Matiss Burgis, Chen Weixing with a 4:0 against Pawel Fertikowski, Marcos Freitas with a 4:1 against Andy Pereira and Alexander Shibaev with a 4:1 against Peter Sereda. Solely Tomas Konecny had to surrender after a very good performance against Fang Bo (current number 14 in the World Ranking) with 1:4.
In the Women’s singles Sarah De Nutte lost against the chinese Wu Yang 0:4.
Tamolwan Khetkuan fought very hard against Huajun Jiang and in the end had to
surrender 3:4 after a 3:0 lead. Andrea Todorovic lost 1:4 against Britt
Eerland, Matilda Ekholm on the other hand defeated Anqi Luo 4:0 just like
Tetyana Bilenko the lithuanian Egle Stuckyte. Lea Rakovac also showed a very good
performance, but finally lost 2:4 against Jiao Li, the former European
Champion.
In the Doubles everything went
especially well for Gardos/Habesohn. They managed to not only win their first
round game, but also their second round game in the evening after a great
performance with a straight 4:0. Joao Monteiro with his Portuguese partner also
managed that which means that both pairings are already seeded in the round of
sixteen. Very well done!
