On day 3 of the main round, only the female WSA players were able to continue on the road to success.
Matilda Ekholm and Tetyana Bilenko showed brilliant performances. Ekholm won against the ukrainian Margaryta Pesotska 4:1 and Bilenko against the russian Maria Dolgikh also 4:1 which means that the two are already seeded in the round of sixteen. There Ekholm will encounter the chinese Zi Mu and Bilenko the rising star of Japan, the 14 years old Mima Ito.
In the mens contest, Alexander Shibaev had to face the worlds number 2 Xu Xin from China. Shibaev began very strong and won the first 2 sets. Then the chinese adjusted his play better and in the end decided the game in his favor 4:2.
Chen
Weixing played against Gao Ning from Singapur, the current number 15 in the
World Ranking who was too strong to beat on this day. Chen could only win one
set and finally lost 1:4.
Marcos Freitas lost his match in the round of the
last 32 with the same result against Patrick Franziska from Germany. The German
showed a very strong performance and came out on top against the worlds number
8.
Stefan Fegerl encountered Peng Tang, who won straight against Mihai Bobocica
the previous day. Fegerl managed to win two sets, but in the end had to
surrender with a result of 2:4.
The tightest match of the day was played by neo-father Joao Monteiro and Timo
Boll. In a hard-fought, exciting match, Monteiro lost 10:12 in the deciding
seventh set.
Consequently despite their excellent performances, no male WSA-player managed
to reach the round of sixteen.
For our ladies, we keep the fingers crossed!
